Because it is engineered, quartz kitchen countertops have many desirable qualities. For one, kitchen quartz countertops are almost completely maintenance free. Quartz countertops, if surfaced properly, are non-porous, scratch resistant, durable, heat, resistant, stain resistant and easy to maintain. That’s a great combo of features for any kitchen!

This is the fourth of a series of 4 articles on kitchen countertops, if your have not read the first article we recommend you read Kitchen Countertops first, in this article we will be focused on discussing Quartz countertops, Our second article already covered Granite Countertops and our third article covered Marble Countertops.

How Quartz Kitchen Countertops Are Engineered

Quartz countertops are made from 90% natural ground quartz (and may include crushed granite or marble as well) mixed with a 10% mix of resins, polymers and pigments. Because pigments are added, there is a very wide range of colours available when choosing a quartz kitchen countertop.

Because this engineered stone is non-porous it never needs to be sealed. It also is less prone to cracks and chips that all the natural stones are more susceptible to.

Quartz Countertop Patterns

While many beautiful patterns can be manufactured, all the patterns are man made and they don’t quite compete with the beauty of mother natures natural patterns found in marble or granite.

Having said that, many beautiful patterns and colours are available and if you are seeking a sturdy kitchen countertop that can handle a lot of abuse with little maintenance, this is your best choice. Just how durable is quartz? Well when you are walking in most major indoor shopping malls, you may very well be leaning on and walking on yards and yards of quartz, it is that durable.
